Song Lyric Sunday

Several people I’ve encountered on WordPress mention a Sunday “ritual”, called Song Lyric Sunday by a chap called Jim Adams (newepicauthor). There seem to be a few things like this on WordPress – somebody sets a theme for a post – or in this case, a song – and followers play along.

I take a view that in general, my time should be spent more productively, but, hey, it’s a Sunday, it’s a nice idea and it’s good to get into the spirit of the WordPress community. So I thought I’d have a try. Whether I do this every Sunday..we’ll wait and see.

Jim’s theme this week is based around clothing styles. As it’s my first time, I shall post this obvious one by Ray Davies an The Kinks:

They seek him here, they seek him there,
His clothes are loud, but never square.
It will make or break him so he’s got to buy the best,
‘Cause he’s a dedicated follower of fashion.

And when he does his little rounds,
‘Round the boutiques of London Town,
Eagerly pursuing all the latest fads and trends,
‘Cause he’s a dedicated follower of fashion.

Oh yes he is (oh yes he is), oh yes he is (oh yes he is).
He thinks he is a flower to be looked at,
And when he pulls his frilly nylon panties right up tight,
He feels a dedicated follower of fashion.

Oh yes he is (oh yes he is), oh yes he is (oh yes he is).
There’s one thing that he loves and that is flattery.
One week he’s in polka-dots, the next week he is in stripes.
‘Cause he’s a dedicated follower of fashion.

They seek him here, they seek him there,
In Regent Street and Leicester Square.
Everywhere the Carnabetian army marches on,
Each one an dedicated follower of fashion.

Oh yes he is (oh yes he is), oh yes he is (oh yes he is).
His world is built ’round discoteques and parties.
This pleasure-seeking individual always looks his best
‘Cause he’s a dedicated follower of fashion.

Oh yes he is (oh yes he is), oh yes he is (oh yes he is).
He flits from shop to shop just like a butterfly.
In matters of the cloth he is as fickle as can be,
‘Cause he’s a dedicated follower of fashion.
He’s a dedicated follower of fashion.
He’s a dedicated follower of fashion.

  1. Hey 🙂
Great to see your post and a fabulous choice of song.
I think a lot of us just can’t stay away from SONG-LYRIC-SUNDAY…if you like music, it’s fascinating to see the music choices and tastes of other bloggers.
Hope you are having a top weekend.

    1. Thank you, Caramel. I’ve already decided that for next time, I’m going to try and add a personal dimension in addition to the theme – music from my own collection or something – so stand by for some very dodgy reggae! Having said that, I can’t think of anything of mine to do with style, plus I have quite a small collection anyway, so “something I like” (which this song fits into) might have to do.

How about https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=T1Ond-OwgU8 ? because somebody wanting to appear stylish might have some? But that’s a bit of a fraud – I have just one greatest hits album of his out of 800-odd in total so am definitely not a fan – although my dad might have been!

  2. I took over Song Lyric Sunday at the beginning of this year from a woman named Helen who became ill. It is always nice to have new people drop in and contribute their music and you can never go wrong with the Kinks. My name is Jim Adams, not Jim Davis by the way and I hope you drop by again.

    1. Hello Jim, nice to “meet” you. I will correct my post. I have been reading blogs for a while, and am familiar with “Song Lyric Sunday”. but had to go hunting this morning to find your blog behind the concept. Up to now, I have limited myself to commenting suggestions on posts. I can only assume that I got your name confused with that of Ray Davies, but I will have no such excuse in the future as I am now following you! I hope my choice brought back a memory or two.

            1. Well worth it. I re-read it on Audible a couple of years ago. He’s basically in his own little world, so I found the books far better than anything they tried to televise – I think there were five books in the end, of which HHGG was the first – the tagline was “a trilogy in five parts”. Have a look at some of his quotes on the web – if you appreciate his humour there, you’ll love the books.

    1. I think we all like music (just not the music I normally listen to 😀 ) and now that I have my own WordPress site I figured I should post something of my own rather than just leaving a comment on other people’s. Next time, I want to try and think of a song from my personal collection, rather than just one I like, although this particular theme, I had a quick browse through my song list and could find nothing which might link. I thought that my choice was obvious but I’ve read eight or ten other SLS posts today and nobody else chose that song. I also “met” Jim through this tranche of posts.
