Song Lyric Sunday (27 October 2019) – Lost / Found / Hide / Seek

Last week, Jim (NewEpicAuthor, A Unique Title For Me) set the subject of posture (my attempt). This week he gives us the subject of losing, finding, hiding or seeking.

I have to admit that my initial choice came to me instantly. REM. But I was a bit unsure because a couple of participants went with REM’s Stand last week. Brilliant though they are, you can probably have too much of a good thing. (Or so I’ve been told!) Also, I like to try and think of something unique, although secretly, I do hope that somebody else posts that song, because it is an excellent listen.

So REM became first reserve, and I started looking for a substitute.

In the end, it was easy enough to find an alternative. Jon and Vangelis were a British/Greek duo who released a handful of albums in the Eighties, mainly. Their songs also charted in the USA, so I’m hoping we’ll all have a vague recollection – in the UK they were possibly best known for the theme to the movie Chariots of Fire.

But my choice keeps with Jim’s theme instead. The find is obvious, and if you listen carefully, you’ll hear a bonus lost in the lysics. Even if you have no recollection of it, this is a pleasant track in any case, Find My Way Home. Written by Jon and Vangelis themselves (Vangelis is an anglicised version of Evangelos), from 1981, I hope there are a few memories in there for us.

You ask me where to begin
Am I so lost in my sin
You ask me where did I fall
I’ll say I can’t tell you when
But if my spirit is lost
How will I find what is near
Don’t question I’m not alone
Somehow I’ll find my way home

My sun shall rise in the east
So shall my heart be at peace
And if you’re asking me when
I’ll say it starts at the end
You know your will to be free
Is matched with love secretly
And talk will alter your prayer
Somehow you’ll find you are there.

Your friend is close by your side
And speaks in far ancient tongue
A seasons wish will come true
All seasons begin with you
One world we all come from
One world we melt into one
Just hold my hand and we’re there
Somehow we’re going somewhere
Somehow we’re going somewhere

You ask me where to begin
Am I so lost in my sin
You ask me where did I fall
I’ll say I can’t tell you when
But if my spirit is strong
I know it can’t be long
No questions I’m not alone
Somehow I’ll find my way home
Somehow I’ll find my way home
Somehow I’ll find my way home
Somehow I’ll find my way home

    1. My wife has their Greatest Hits album, so I guess they were big enough here to release a greatest hits album! but a lot of the tracks on it I don’t recognise. I find the music very pleasant but very same-y. I can hear CoF in there.

  1. This is a nice mellow song. I know Jon as the lead singer for Yes. I know Vangelis as doing the soundtrack for Blade Runner. Never would have thought of them collaborating, but it works! Will have to go find more by this duo.
